When does an ACH transfer reach the other person?

Updated this week

This guide is for anyone sending money to a US bank and wants to know when their ACH (Automated Clearing House) payment will be available in the recipient’s account.

ACH is an electronic method used to transfer funds between US banks — commonly used for direct deposits, bill payments, and business disbursements.

When will the recipient receive the funds?

The timing depends on when you initiate the transfer. Use the table below as a general reference for Same-Day and Next-Day ACH transfers.

Note: These are typical processing timelines. Actual deposit times may vary slightly due to bank processing delays, system latency, or service outages.

Same-Day ACH Transfers

Funds Expected By (ET)

10:30 a.m.

1:30 p.m

2:45 p.m.

5:00 p.m

End of Processing Day*

* "End of Processing Day" refers to the latest time the recipient’s bank (RDFI) will credit the funds. This is usually by 5:00–6:00 p.m. local time, but some banks may operate with extended hours.

Important Reminders

  1. ACH transfers are not processed on weekends or U.S. federal holidays.

  2. If you send a transfer at 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday, it will remain pending until Monday, when banks resume operations (typically between 6:00 and 9:00 a.m. local time).
