Micro-Deposits and U.S. Virtual Accounts

Updated in the last hour

What is a micro-deposit?

A micro-deposit is a small test payment, usually less than $1, that is sent to your bank account to confirm ownership and that the account is active.

Why are micro-deposits used?

Micro-deposits are part of the verification process when linking an external bank account to your U.S. Virtual Account. By confirming the exact amounts of the deposits, you prove that you control the linked account.

How does micro-deposit verification work with U.S. Virtual Accounts?

  • When you link an external bank account through ACH, one or more small deposits (typically under $1) are sent.

  • These deposits generate events that include the deposit amount, source bank details, and a timestamp.

  • You use this information to confirm the account in the external platform that initiated the verification.

Are micro-deposits treated as transfers?

No. Any deposit under $2 is treated as a verification attempt, not as a payment or transfer.

When are micro-deposits credited?

Micro-deposit funds themselves are not released to your Virtual Account balance until a payment above the $2 minimum has been received. For example, if two deposits of $0.12 and $0.05 arrive, they will only be credited after the first transfer above $2 is made.

What is challenge deposit verification?

Challenge deposit verification is similar to micro-deposit verification, but it requires you to input the exact deposit amounts received (for example, $0.56 and $0.84) into the external platform to prove ownership.

Which payment types are supported?

Micro-deposit and challenge deposit verification are supported only for ACH transfers. Wires and other methods are not currently supported.
